Qomi’s research combines physics, chemistry, mechanics, and artificial intelligence to understand and engineer complex processes in porous materials across scales—from atoms to the Earth. He develops computational and data-driven models to tackle challenges in sustainable infrastructure, geochemistry, geophysics, and energy systems. Current research spans cement and concrete durability, carbon mineralization for negative emissions, reactive transport in porous media, subsurface processes for geothermal energy, and urban physics of flooding and resilience. By integrating molecular simulations, continuum modeling, and AI, his group uncovers fundamental mechanisms that enable transformative solutions for climate resilience, clean energy, and the sustainable built environment.
