Microvascular Materials for Carbon Capture

Abstract: Natural systems have developed chemical and physical structures that are phenomenally efficient for gas exchange. Taking a page from nature, we are building synthetic gas exchange units using the same principles of high surface area, intimate contact and chemical reactivity.
Biography:
Prof. Esser-Kahn is a native of suburban Detroit. He received a B.S from Caltech in 2004 and a PhD from Berkeley in 2009, both in Chemistry. He worked as a postdoc with Jeffrey Moore along with Scott White and Nancy Sottos as part of the Autonomous Materials Systems group at the Beckman Institute in the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He has started his independent career at UC Irvine this summer.
