CEE Seminar: Impact of Transportation Policies on Air Quality & Environmental Justice

Abstract: Transportation significantly contributes to urban air pollution. This seminar will explore the relationship between transportation, air quality and health in disproportionately affected communities. The seminar will also present transportation policies and community-driven interventions to mitigate traffic-related air pollution and exposure disparities and improve environmental justice outcomes. The seminar is intended to address some of the existing challenges and possible strategies that emerge when research and policy go beyond technological solutions to comprehensively address the transportation system. 

Bio:  Regan F. Patterson is an assistant professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UCLA, the principal investigator of the Engineering Environmental Justice Lab and the co-founder of Black in Environment. Previously, Patterson was the Transportation Equity Research fellow at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research. Patterson earned her Ph.D. in environmental engineering at UC Berkeley. Her research interests included air quality, sustainable transportation, community engagement and environmental justice.
