CEE Seminar: Evolution of Concrete Technology - Case Studies From Caltrans Applications

Abstract: Advancements in the material science of concrete have been mostly gradual developments that have added up over time. These quantitative advancements taken as a whole have resulted in qualitative improvements. By isolating specific concrete issues and reviewing the history of progress in the associated concrete theory, we can appreciate our advancements, reaffirm the inseparable relationship between theory and practice, and identify needs for further development of the theory.
Bio: Craig Knapp is a senior bridge engineer with Caltrans. He received his B.S. in mechanical engineering from Clarkson University, Potsdam, N.Y., and his M.S. in engineering and MBA from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He previously worked for Hunt Engineers, Architects and Land Surveyors in Big Flats, N.Y. Knapp is currently the Concrete Committee Chair for Caltrans, Division of Engineering Services, and is adjunct faculty for the Sacramento State University Construction Management Department.
